Junior Tier 1 information

Both Tier 1 teams draft graduating U17 players each year from within Central Alberta, typically in early February. Players selected in the draft will be invited to try out for the team that drafted them. The drafting team has the option to retain the Tier 1 playing rights for a drafted player by placing them on their protected list. These rights remain in effect for as long as the player is rostered or for up to two years if the player is not rostered.

1.4 Draft 2 - Rampage and Mavericks

1.4.1 The host franchise for the draft will alternate annually between the Red Deer Rampage and the Mountain View Mavericks.

1.4.2 The host franchise is responsible for arranging a suitable venue for the draft and for notifying the Junior B Tier 1 Commissioner and the RMLL Executive Director about the draft’s format, time, and location.

1.4.3 The draft will consist of twenty (20) rounds of Alberta graduating U17 players.

1.4.4 The drafting order will be determined by the previous regular season standings, along with any trade transactions involving draft picks. If a new franchise enters the division, the new franchise will have the first overall pick. Otherwise, the franchise that finished lowest in the standings will have the first pick.

1.4.5 Rounds 1 through 8:
The Red Deer Rampage will draft Alberta graduating U17 players on the Graduating U17 List who have City of Red Deer addresses and are part of the Red Deer Minor Lacrosse Association.

1.4.6 Rounds 1 through 8:
The Mountain View Mavericks will draft Alberta graduating U17 players on the Graduating U17 List who are part of the Olds Minor Lacrosse Association and the Innisfail Minor Lacrosse Association.

1.4.7 Rounds 9 through 20:
The Red Deer Rampage and Mountain View Mavericks will draft Alberta graduating U17 players on the Graduating U17 List from the following Minor Lacrosse Associations: Blackfalds, Chargers, Innisfail, Kneehill, Lacoka, Olds, Red Deer, Stettler, and Sylvan Lake.

Important Notes

Being drafted does not obligate a player to play Tier 1. It only grants the option to try out for the Tier 1 team that drafted them. Players always retain the right to choose to try out for a Tier 2 team instead.
